100 Blocks Quiltmaker’s Vol. 6

I love being apart of this Volume #6 in the Quiltmaker’s 100 Block magazine. I am always excited to share my block.
My inspiration comes from the wonderful shades from Riley Blake Designs.
We have a variety of colors to choose from.
When combining colors I like the element of surprise with a subtle basic color to keep the colors from being too overbearing.

For the element of surprise color I chose the coral and lime and for the basic color I chose gray.
Of course, you have to have the light cream color to break up all the colors and give the eye a place to rest.
Thus the combination of bold brights and muted basics
creates a block that is pleasing to the eye and not too busy.
This block uses a half square triangle combination.
You can see the pinwheel block that the half square triangles create.
When making half square triangles I like to place 2 blocks with right sides together. Trace a line from corner to corner on the wrong side. Sew 1/4″ on either side of the drawn line. Trim on the line. Press.
You will have 2 half square triangles.
This block is quick and easy. It would look good as an alternate block or an all over quilt block.
I will be giving away 2 volumes of this magazine below.
Please leave your comment about why you love this magazine.
Happy Sewing!

  1. Well, considering that I *LOVE* pinwheel blocks, I do believe your quilt could quickly become one of my very favorite blocks!! Wouldn't it look fabulous as an allover quilt!!! Love it!!

  2. Ohh! This is a great block! It would be good on it's own, or with a friend. I love Quiltmakers mag because it showcases a variety of types of projects that are realistic for many of us.

  3. Jina ~ I LOVE your block. The way it angles across the center of the block is very unique.

I have been a subscriber to Quiltmaker for a few years now since learning to quilt and have every issue so far of 100 Blocks except the very first one. I started getting interested in quilting after the first issue had been released and didn't know then that I would want to buy them all.
I think the biggest reason I like the magazine is for the great pictures and all the instructions are easily written for a beginner to understand. That really helps anyone be able to pick up the magazine and read through and be able to follow along.

  4. Great block and those colors are wonderful. I think they would make a great baby quilt. I love this magazine because there are so many different blocks. i like paper piecing, pieced blocks and applique and they are all there.

  5. Love your block – thanks for sharing. I love the 100 Blocks magazines because where else could you find that many wonderful and varied quilt blocks to try out. Thanks for the chance to win.

  6. Beautiful block and fabric choices. I love the magazine and how I can mix and match the different blocks to make quilts or just one block repeated to make a quilt, so many possibilities.
