Trish and Birdie Fabric Tour

I’m so excited to be the first stop on Deane Beesley’s

“Trish and Birdie Fabric Tour!

This is the sweetest fabric line with beautiful

navy blues, whimsical greens,

yummy oranges, soft pinks and pastel yellows…

I’ve been wanting to make this paper pieced rose for a while…

every time I see this rose I just love it!

You can find the free pattern at Jitka Design Inc.

This is a paper pieced pattern…Jitka Clement

has a wonderful tutorial showing how she

sews the rose pieces together.

So as I continued to play with these fun prints I wanted to make a fabric basket also.

I thought it would be a fun place to store fabrics.

The center block is a 6″ square. The strips are cut 2″.

I used the quilt as you go method to create the outside pieces for this fabric basket.

The method of quilt as you go is just that…

you sew a piece onto your batting and

then stitch every 1/4″…giving you a finished

quilted product.

I did some echo quilting around the rose and then

added the 1″ blocks to create a scrappy border.

I washed this when I was finished so it gets that

wrinkly, worn look where the fabric sinks into it’s stitches…

Echo quilting creates some fun texture and dimension

to a quilt block…I also did some in

the ditch quilting to the 1″ scrappy border.

The navy blue solid helped pop the printed fabric designs and gives the eye a place to rest…
