Monthly Quilt Block 2008

This was a block of the month quilt designed for the year 2008 for beginners. A few of my neighbor friends wanted to learn to quilt and requested I teach some classes. Once a month for a year I designed and taught blocks to celebrate each month. I had no idea the quilt would end up so big. Really, I promise! It just kept going and going like the energizer bunny.

I had so many fun ideas I wanted to do, and some of the blocks I loved so much I just kept making more. Of course they all had to keep fitting into my vision of what I thought the quilt would look like.

The quilt starts in the center with a snowflake for January. Hearts along the outside for February. Windmills for March. April are the cute Easter baskets and as you can see I couldn’t just make one I made twelve. May flowers were also cute and I kept sewing and sewing. June was a square in a square because I was trying to be simple. July are the cute stars and August are the flags that I love. September is the school house down in the bottom left corner celebrating back to school. Pumpkins at the top (or apples as I was told by a friend, either way they’re fun) for October. November are the maple leaves and December are the stockings. One stocking for each of my four cute children who are too big to fight over which stocking is theirs. I have to say this was a fun project. You can see more of my projects at http://www.jinabarneydesignz.com
