Salt Lake City Competition

I thought I’d share some fun pictures of  my youngest performing at a Scottish Dance Festival at Thanksgiving Point. This is her performing the Highland Fling.

This is the parade of the bands that happens around lunch time. All the clans parade and the bands perform.

It’s quite spectacular to see all the bands performing together. It’s a great sight and sound. The pipes ring in your ears for days. They give me the chills. I love to hear the bag pipes.

Here Clancy and McKenzie are performing the Seann Truibhas for the mass bands and parade.

Again the Seann Truibhas second step. Each of these dances has a story.

Performing the Earl of Errol. A beautiful dance that is danced wearing the Aboyne. This is the costume that she is wearing. I make all of my girls outfits. There are requirements and restrictions for all the dances. Their tartan is imported wool from Scotland. The vest is velvet.

This is the Irish Jig. They wear a special tap shoe that makes a lot of noise. The story behind this dance is about an Irish washer women getting mad at the children, who just got into her washing and got it all dirty.

You can see the live piper behind her piping for the dancing. It takes a lot of lung power to keep those pipes going all day. Clancy is about to click her heals is celebration of getting those little rascals that took and soiled her washing.

I’ve been teaching my girls for about 30 years. Competitions are the fun part. Training is the hard part. It takes a lot of discipline and hard work. It’s been a great family activity and we have loved every minute.

  1. What a wonderful post. The pictures are amazing as it is not easy to get pics of people with their feet off the ground.
