These are a simple cute gift for any baby using your scrap fabrics. I buy most of my cloth diapers from Walmart in a package of 12.
Measure your cloth diaper. Cut your decorative fabric about 1″ larger than the cloth diaper.
Piece your decorative fabric however you would like to this same measurement: one inch larger than the cloth diaper.
With right sides together sew all the way around the four edges leaving a 2″ opening on one side.
Note: I do not clip my corners on the diaper because the fabric is so thin and can pull through if cut too close.
Top stitch the opening closed and continue around all four sides of the burp cloth.
This step is optional but I like to stitch down the seams on the cloth diaper through all the layers. It gives the burp cloth that finished look.
Here it is folded and ready to go. You could make several and bundle them together with a ribbon. You can never have too many burp cloths.
This is another option for a girl. I used ribbon and ric rac on the edges to make it look cute.
Another simple way would be to sew a cute piece of fabric down the middle of the burp cloth.
This is a great way to use up scrap fabrics and embellishments.

Any new mum would love getting these cute burp cloths as a gift.
Happy Sewing!

You are right, one cannot have enough burp cloths so I'm making them for my niece who is having twin boys. I pre-washed the diapers and am ready;-) why do we cut the fabrics one inch larger than diaper? Can I lay diaper and fabric right sides together and sew around and trim to size? Thanks. I think this is a GREAT idea and love your tutorial for this. Thanks
