I am so excited to be included with Dara Tomasson’s book launch! This is a wonderful free motion quilting book called Walk Jog Run!
Dara is a good friend of mine. She is a wonderful, sharing and kind person who is such a great addition to the quilting world. Her passion is teaching and mentoring quilters. In this book, she shares her knowledge of how to build muscle memory so you can do free-motion quilting and then of course, she expects you to practice and has ways to encourage you how to do this!
There are practice worksheets, design variations, history behind some of the projects, labeling quilts, attaching bindings and the list goes on.
From the book Walk Jog Run I chose to make the Heart of the Home Pillow Cover. I’ve chosen to use Poppie Cottons beautiful collection called Daisy Mae. You can find all the fabric selections here.
It’s a simple log cabin version of a quilt block. I like the variety of the strips changing sizes. There is the 1 1/2″ thin strips which I have kept in the light pink. The thicker 3 1/2″ strips are all in a navy print. Dara has a simple pattern and instructions for how to construct this design.
The binding is a Country Confetti in the dark pink called Cotton Candy and you can find all the selections of colors on Poppie Cottons website.
After assembling the pillow top I decided to do straight line quilting on my domestic machine. I love the modern look of straight lines. These quilted lines are 1″ apart.
I used to have a long arm machine and I miss it. I absolutely love playing and love to take on the challenges and do the practice sheets that Dara has in this wonderful book.
I hope you are inspired to pick up this new book Walk Jog Run and start a new project. This book of Dara’s is amazing and is filled with projects and quilts that will keep you busy all year. I love the simplicity of how Dara breaks down her different designs and how to include them with different blocks to create a new look. The creative process is a wonderful thing to clear your mind and let yourself discover new ways of doing things.
Happy Sewing!
